According to the United States Census Bureau, Hobe Sound has a total area of 5.7 square miles (14.8 km²)— 5.5 square miles (14.1 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (4.71%) is water Time zone Eastern (EST) Hobe Sound has a subtropical climate. The average high in January is 74 °F; in July and August it is 90 °F. Elevation 20 ft (6 m) Hobe Sound is the most southern exurban area in Martin County. It stretches along the coast between Port Salerno and Jonathan Dickinson State Park but does not include Jupiter Island. The Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge (covering 1,000 acres) lies just to the northwest on Jupiter Island, the barrier island that separates Hobe Sound from the open sea. St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park on Long Island east of Port Salerno and north of Jupiter Island occupies 928 acres of Jupiter Island and a half-mile of coral reef. Neighbor is the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. This barrier island sanctuary boasts a spectacular water display where waves shoot up to 50 feet in the air as they burst through holes in the Anastasia limestone rocks better known as Blowing Rocks Preserve. Blowing Rocks Preserve is a magnificent barrier island sanctuary located on Jupiter Island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon. Blowing Rock protects a variety of natural habitats including beach dune, coastal strand, mangrove wetlands, tropical hammock and oak hammock along its rocky shoreline. Location Size The state-operated and historic Jonathan Dickinson State Park allows visitors a leisurely river cruise along the wild and scenic Loxahatchee River where snakes, alligators and many other varieties of wildlife.
