Stuart

Martin County is located on Florida’s South East Coast, which borders the St. Lucie River and West of the Indian River. Martin County is bound by the Atlantic ocean on one side and Lake Okeechobee to the west. Martin County is part of the Treasure Coast and the FL tropics.

One might feel the climate is perfect with mild winters and warm summers. The annual average temperature is 72° moderate with gentle breezes. Annual rainfall averages 70.44 inches. Elevation 10 FT.

Stuart’s population is 17,285 and increases to 21,087 with winter visitors. Un-crowded beaches and small-town charm help describe Martin county. The county has a total area of 753 Square miles, of which, 556 square miles of it is land and 197 square miles of it is water, much of it in the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Okeechobee. The total area is 26.19% water.

This tropical paradise is known for it's outstanding quality of life, excellent location and incredible natural beauty. Martin County is a wonderful place to call home. Martin County is made up of several towns and municipalities including Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Port Salerno, Sewall's Point, Hobe Sound, Hutchinson Island, Jupiter Island, Tequesta and Indiantown.

Much of Martin County is accessible by boat. Cruise the North and South forks of the St. Lucie River for it's tropical, serene, untouched natural beauty and wildlife by Kyack or canoe. The avid boater will enjoy the ocean, river, lake and bay fishing year round. Battle with a sailfish off shore or catch tarpon in the river. Martin County is an Angler's Dream. You will be hooked on Martin County.

The city of Stuart is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World because of the many sailfish found in the ocean off Martin County. 

Stuart has quaint older neighborhoods in the downtown area. Stuart’s revitalization has given the downtown area a pleasant ambiance lined with shops, restaurants and theatre.  Many restaurants are accessible by boat. Even the hospital has an emergency dock for patients that arrive by boat. With over 80 restaurants, art galleries, antiques, gift boutiques, sweet shops and quality clothing stores you are guaranteed to enjoy your shopping experience. The treasue Coast Square mall is close for your department store shopping.

A waterfront park and boardwalk offer a great strolling environment along floating boat slips and warm tropical breezes. Historic buildings such as the Stuart Feed Store Museum, Historic Lyric Theatre (silent movie house built in 1925) and the Court House Cultural Center provide cultural entertainment for all ages. The Lyric hosts a variety of shows from Classical theatre, Rock, country bands and dance performances. 

Martin County's natural resources really begin at its coastline. You can enjoy a stroll on the beach, hunting for shells during a day of "fun in the sun," taking advantage of the waves, windsurfing at a local causeway or watching for large, lumbering sea turtles crawling ashore to lay their eggs in the sand.

If you enjoy being around the water you will love the beaches and rivers of Martin county. Enjoy the wide waters of the intracoastal waterway. For water sports visit one of our 16 beaches or causeways for swimming, surfing, fishing, snorkeling, diving or wind surfing. 

37 parks offer activities in sports such as baseball, racquetball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, shuffleboard, tennis and lacrosse.

You will also find playgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps and nature trails.  

Martin County is a Golfer's paradise with 35 golf courses within a 15 mile radius. Such as Palmer, Nichlaus, Fazio and PGA. Many professional golfers feel that this area offers the best seleciton of golf courses anywhere.

Many popular attractions are within a short driving distance. Many as close as two hours such are Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure, Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Discovery Cove and Kennedy Space Center. Other attractions close by are Busch Gardens, Daytona International Speedway, Kennedy Space Center and the Florida Keys. From the St. Lucie Inlet and just a across the Atlantic Ocean are the Bahama Islands.

Martin County's diverse employment base includes agriculture, retail, financial, distribution, manufacture and health care. Martin County has two hospitals not for profit known as Martin Memorial.  One of the top 100 hospitals in the nation.  One of the top orthopedic centers in the country. The top major employers are, Martin Memorial Hospital, Vought Aircraft, Municipal Government, Marine Industry and thousands of successful small businesses. The economy is driven by retail service, hospitality, construction and government sectors located throughout the city.

Diverse range of housing from the modest to luxuryest. Prime oceanfront properties, waterfront homes and condos with docks, golf course communities, country equestrian estates and quiet residential neighborhoods.

Martin County's airport, Witham Field, provides facilities for corporate, private and charter air transportations. Commercial airlines are 35 miles South at the Palm Beach International airport.  I-95 and FL turnpike provide quick North South connections. Train service is readily available.

Excellent public school system. All schools in Martin county are A or B rating under the States grading system. Eighteen Martin County School district schools received a grade of A and one school received a grade of B. Martin County schools ranked 5th overall in the State of Florida in reading, writing, and math. A home leader in quality education.

Martin County is home of the Chastain center. One of the 5 campuses for the Indian River Community College. One of the top community colleges in Florida.

Hang out at the sand bar by Sailfish Point. Pet a manatee, golf on a championship course, catch a wave or catch a Mahi Mahi Dolphin for dinner. View mile wide waterways.

Dock your vessel at the St. Lucie Inlet Park to enjoy a nature walk, picnic or BBQ on an unspoiled island. It's like enjoying your own private beach. Dolphins will roll up and over the surface of the water alongside your boat and mullet will leap and twirl.

Martin County waterways are a haven for bird watchers. Several varieties of birds including great blue herons, hawks, ospreys, spoonbills, brown pelicans, egrets and seagulls are a common site.  Sand Hill cranes are a popular site eating grubs in any neighbor's yard.
